Simon was an incredible man for collaboration: in his work about many years with the journals with the Roman Society; in jogging seminars and publishing jointly edited volumes, not least during the crafting, with Mary Beard and me, of Religions of Rome (1998), through which we tried to set out a radically distinctive vision with the position of rel
